Just want to confirm to anyone who's wondering if Lenovo Y40-70 is capable of 1440p resolution, YES!
I had a Lenovo Y40-70 laptop for 3 years now and always used an external 1080p monitor (mostly a 23 inch) almost all the time (as anyone familiar with Y40-70 would know, the 14 inch IPS screen in the Y40-70 is no good).
Recently I wanted to switched to a larger screen, mainly for image editing. I couldn't find any info on whether Y40-70 would support any higher resolution. I've gone through all the specification documents by Lenovo and various forums, none of them confirmed Y40s (even the Y40-80 version) can output any higher resolution than 1080p.
In fact, some documents/forums even specifically said the HDMI port in Y40 is only capable of 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 maximum resolutions.
Since I really wanted to have a better quality (color accuracy) and larger display I thought I'd just get a 2560x1440 display, and at the worst case try using an USB3.0 to HDMI port adapter OR fall back to 1080p resolution on the larger display (and later switch the laptop to a one that'd support such resolution)
So bought a Dell 27 inch UltraSharp InfinityEdge U2717D monitor, and to my surprise Lenovo Y40-70 worked with the monitor without any issues! (Thank God!)
Only thing I had to do was use a HDMI cable to connect the Y40-70 to the monitor, as Dell U2717D monitor only comes with a DP to mDP cable (So I used a 'Highspeed HDMI cable with Ethernet' type cable I was using for 1080p display -specifically a Belkin F8V3311b06 cable).
+audio can also be streamed through the HDMI to the Dell U2717D with the 1440p video (although, personally I use a separate sound system)
Main specs: Lenovo Y40-70 has only a HDMI port (exact version I'm not sure, but can confirm it this to support 2560x1440 resolution + audio stream through the port), Radeon M275X 2GB VGA, Core i7 4510U processor and 8GB RAM.
Dell U2717D supports 2560x1440 native resolution, has HDMI, DP (in & out for daisy chain), mDP as video inputs and a USB 3.0 hub (only works as a USB hub, no video inputs with that or anything).
